Kenneth Cole PR Faux Pas
A little faux pas could lead to the downfall of a brand – check out this one from earlier in the month.
The question is what do you do with something this insensitive and offensive once it’s in the public eye? As a PR or Social Media professional how would you deal with the situation? What would you say or tell Kenneth Cole to say when he ends up on the Today Show and Matt Lauer is giving him that “I should slap you look” of disapproval.
My reaction when I saw the tweet was “Wow now that funny, but offensive in a not so funny way” then I moved on. Well a few hours later and in the world of the social web a few hours is like the 24 hour news cycle. This stupid little tweet is everywhere and everyone is talking about it. Now the situation out of control and I don’t think you have much choice if you are @KennethCole but to fire the person who made the tweet. This should be a lesson to all brands that you are what you tweet, so be careful with your social media.
